THANK YOU FOR SIGNING UP TO VOLUNTEEER AT CROATAN BUCK FIFTY!
1.91 mi (KOM 4:47 @ 24.0mph)
This first section of gravel is smooth, well packed and fast. There are some potholes/washboard and the best line is to the far right edge.
2.32 mi (KOM 5:56 @ 23.5mph)
The RIGHT TURN onto the section is loose and USE CAUTION.
This entire section has new gravel on it and is packed and fast. There are two grooves for vehicles and the best lines are in those grooves.
1.96 mi (KOM 5:23 @ 21.9mph)
There is a RIGHT TURN & IMMEDIATE LEFT TURN onto this section.
This is the second most challenging section, it is sandy and soft for the first 500 yards.
The best line is to the left. There are sections of mud, mudholes, and lots of truck tire ruts.
This section always feels like your tires are going flat and your brakes are rubbing… but the only remedy is WATTS.
3.00 mi (KOM 8:20 @ 21.6mph)
This section starts as you cross the railroad, then LEFT TURN 200 yards later… The section is beautiful but requires good line choice… Best Line is to the right shoulder. The section ends over a second RR crossing and you meet the main road.
2.23 mi (KOM 5:46 @ 23.3mph)
The road section is fast, flat and PLEASE USE CAUTION… THE RACE WILL NOT BE DECIDED HERE. Make a right at the first store and follow the road out and make the first right onto Great Lake Rd. The road is paved for another mile and then returns to gravel.
1.37 mi (KOM 3:37 @ 22.8mph)
This section is the gravel portion of Great Lake heading out. Line choice is key as there are big potholes in the middle of the road. Best line is the right shoulder. Section is fast and well packed.
3.56 mi (KOM 9:49 @ 21.8mph)
LEFT TURN onto Holston Rd. This Section is fast, packed and also filled with small potholes. Best Line is to the right shoulder. This is where the wind will start to play a factor.
4.32 mi (KOM 11:24 @ 22.8mph)
RIGHT TURN onto Black Swamp Rd. This section is the LONG drag out to the Aid Station/Turn Around. Exposed and Wind is a certainty. Line choice is key as speeds increase and there are potholes everywhere. Best Line is Straight Up The Center.
AID STATION/TURN AROUND
RIGHT TURN into the ATV Parking Lot, Stay Right and Follow the loop through the timing mat and the Aid Tent to head back out on the Return Lap.
4.34 mi (KOM 10:58 @ 23.8mph)
LEFT TURN onto Black Swamp Rd. This section is the LONG drag back to Holston Rd. Headwind is most likely. Line choice is key as speeds increase and there are potholes everywhere. Best Line is Straight Up The Center.
0.79 mi (KOM 2:00 @ 23.8mph)
LEFT TURN onto Holston Rd. Short section that is fast and packed.
2.90 mi (KOM 11:45 @ 14.8mph)
LEFT TURN onto SAVAGE ROAD. This section is filled with mudholes… the key to the line is to remember you only need a tire width to get through. There are four massive mudholes that cover the entire width of the road… STAY LEFT on these… There is one that requires you to dismount and jump over it. Stay upright, have fun, keep the power down! Most of the line is to the left, but after 200 riders go through it, all bets are off.
3.37 mi (KOM 8:45 @ 23.1mph)
RIGHT TURN on Great Lake Rd. You just survived Savage Rd… SO ATTACK HERE! Gravel road section that rolls fast and packed back to the pavement.
2.28 mi (KOM 7:00 @ 19.6mph)
Same Road Section headed the way back. THREE LEFT TURNS! Stay Safe and YIELD TO TRAFFIC!
3.08 mi (KOM 8:25 @ 22.0mph)
LEFT TURN onto Gravel and the RR Tracks… Stay to your right for best line and avoid the potholes.
1.94 mi (KOM 5:10 @ 22.5mph)
LEFT TURN after the RR Tracks. Heading back on this THREE STAR section… sandy, muddy, and rutted… remember USE YOUR WATTS!
2.26 mi (KOM 5:22 @ 25.3mph)
RIGHT TURN & IMMEDIATE LEFT onto this section. This is the new gravel section… fast and powering you home… stay in the tire groove and get after it.
1.85 mi (KOM 4:22 @ 25.5mph)
LEFT TURN onto the last gravel section… the home stretch… fast, packed and STAY TO YOUR RIGHT!
0.43 mi (KOM 0:48 @ 32.4mph)
LEFT TURN and Paved to the track… YOU MADE IT!
